I don't know you, why would I open up? It's too private, too embarrassing, too silly, too trivial. You don't know me, why would you care? I'm just another name, just another student, just another hopeful. I've never told anyone, why would I tell you? It requires years of trust, of "no questions asked", of give and take, of knowing that you'll never leave. But that's never happened, will it ever? So I won't tell anyone, I'll lie and hedge and make things up, and resent you for making me.

As I stare, dreamily, the lines, they blur and run. Blinking, blinking, always blinking. The people on the pamphlets laugh as I stroll on through their halls. White and black and grey, always. The desks groan against the carpet, reluctant to leave their temporary hallway home. Classical notes drifting through the air, pencils scratching on paper. It strikes! With no reason, no warning, no consideration of circumstance. In the middle, near the end, at the beginning. Don't ask why, don't ask for help, don't let others see. There's nothing you can do anyway. Might as well ride it out, and hope that it ends.

Teeth and lips and teeth and lips is all you want, really. Anything and everything else just complicates things. Only class interaction, nothing more. No speaking during lunch and no smiles at seminar. It's simpler that way. Maybe a word of good luck, now and then, a salutation or a goodbye. But even that is a little messy. Class competitions? Yes.
